We will have special musical guests, fabulous raffles, and enticing silent auctions for your pleasure at the Marriott’s elegant ballroom. The Parents of Universal Performers foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating, fostering, and encouraging the Performing Arts at MSJHS. Over the years PUPs has supplemented the meager budget with items such as scholarship opportunities, clinicians, coaches, theatrical equipment, instruments, and uniforms. The arts are an essential part of education that provides our younger generation with an important creative outlet.

Along with the Fremont Marriott, many local companies sponsor our event by donating services worth over twenty thousand dollars. 3B Lighting and Sound, Mundy & Collins AudioVisual, Method 42 Events, and Fremont Flower Pavilion all donate goods and services that help us to keep costs down on this gorgeous evening. We appreciate the sponsorships and hope that you or your business would be able to sponsor our event, buy a table or place an ad in the program to help us with our fundraising goals. PUPs is a federally registered 501(c)3 nonprofit foundation.

Your investment in PUPs will help create opportunities for students to expand their knowledge of the arts and will help continue the long-standing tradition of supporting of the arts at Mission San Jose High School. PUPs mission cannot be completed without the support of community members and your generous contributions.

2014 Fall – Into the Woods

The Universal Performers of Mission San Jose High School are proud to present

Sondheim’s Into the Woods

This innovative retelling of our favorite fairy tales: Cinderella, Rapunzel, Jack in the Beanstalk and Little Red Riding Hood, has them mixed up and helping each other on their individual journeys.

By the end of the first act all seem right … everyone appears to have their Happy Ever After.

In the second act we see what happens AFTER Happy Ever After….
- Does the Giant’s Wife get revenge?
- Will Rapunzel survive in a world outside of her tower?
- Can the villainous witch get her happy ending?

Hollywood! A magical, magnificent, amazing and a fascinating place where dreams are made! Our theme this year is “Hooray for Hollywood”!! We will be catching exact spirit on May 15, at Fremont Marriott’s elegant ballroom. Enjoy three course delectable dining at our annual Dinner & Dance Fundraiser, featuring the MSJ High School Jazz Band with our very own special musical guests, fabulous raffles, and enticing silent auctions.

“Hooray for Hollywood” is a song from 1937s, a piece of music written for the film ‘Hollywood Hotel’. It’s widely considered the official “theme-song” of Hollywood and is sometimes heard at awards ceremonies (even those not held in the United States!) The lyrics celebrate the golden age of American film-making.

Hookslide Concert/Variety Show

Hookslide is a hard rockin’ cool groovin’ four man A cappella, beatbox, vocal revolution.

You will be amazed by this talented group, including Mayank, a MSJHS alumnus. We are fortunate to have them perform regularly at MSJHS.

Variety Show opening featuring Show Choir, and other Choir groups, Drama, musical and dance performances by students.

Performing Arts Gala

The annual Performing Arts Gala is the most significant event put forth by the Performing Arts department and takes place towards the end of each academic year.

It typically falls in April or May and represents a great opportunity for well wishers to enjoy an evening of dinner and entertainment by the students of the department and also functions as the largest fundraising event for PUPS.

Details of this event are generally posted at the beginning of the academic year. Please stay tuned and check this space periodically if it hasn’t yet been posted.
